Non-Toxic Household Cleaner!

Updated: Jan 29

Hey guys! Another simple and toxic-free recipe for you today! As you know, Gabriel and I are detoxing our lives in every sense — asides from citrus scents that is ;)

Distilled white vinegar is good at descaling your coffee maker and leaving windows streak free because “the acid reacts with the organic chemicals in stains and dissolves them away,” explains Joe Glajch, a chemist and owner of JLG AP Consulting in Nashua, N.H. “But just as it eats away at coffee stains, imagine it doing the same thing to other surfaces in your home.”

For more information simply have a google search as to what surfaces, materials and appliances are SAFE to use vinegar with.

What You Need:

  1. 1L white vinegar

  2. 1 grapefruit, 1 lemon

  3. Water

  4. 2 jars

  5. 2 spray bottles

Magic Method:

  1. Quarter your citrus fruits

  2. Remove the flesh, eat and enjoy!

  3. Julienne the citrus skin into matchsticks

  4. Put the citrus into two separate jars, and fill with vinegar. Lid on!

  5. Distil / marinade / leave them for 24 hours to 7 days

  6. Decant into spray bottles. Fill them with the ratio 3/1 water to vinegar.

  7. Compost the skins

  8. Store spare citrus vinegar solution in a jar until you need to top up the spray bottle again.

To clean the bathroom sink and toilet, I spray the vinegar solution, leave it for 5 minutes, then sprinkle one or two tablespoons of baking soda, and scrub. Works a charm!

Let me know if you're detoxing your life too!
